Tool

Free packing list template.

A packing list is the list of packages in a shipment: what each one contains, how many there are, their dimensions and their weight. It is used to choose the equipment, work out the VGM and prepare the load. This free template, in Excel or CSV, collects that data in the columns the SendContainer validator reads.

Free and no email required. One sheet for the table and another with the instructions.

How to fill it in

One row for each type of package. Delete the example row before using it.

  • Measure and weigh each package with its packaging: that is the space it takes and the weight it adds to the equipment.
  • Enter numbers without units (120, not «120 cm»). Use a decimal point.
  • Do not rename the columns or add total rows.
  • If you leave Rotatable or Stackable blank, the validator uses its default; you can change it in the app.

Validate it in seconds

With the packing list ready, check before you book whether your load fits in the equipment, whether the weight is within the limits and whether it can be properly stowed. In the SendContainer validator you import the template as it is, or type in the packages by hand. The steps of the whole shipment are in how to send a container, step by step.

Validate your load before it ships.

Questions about the packing list

What is a packing list?

The list of packages in a shipment, with their contents, quantity, dimensions and weight. It is prepared by whoever ships the goods and goes with the commercial invoice. Packing list in the glossary

Is it the same as the commercial invoice?

No. The invoice states the value of the goods; the packing list, how they are packed: packages, dimensions and weights. For load planning, the packing list is what counts.

Gross or net weight?

Gross: each package's weight with its packaging. It is what counts for the equipment's payload and for the VGM.

Can I upload the template to the validator?

Yes: you import the Excel or CSV file as it is, without changing the columns. If you prefer to type in the packages by hand, the template helps you keep all the data together.

Does it have formulas or macros?

No. It is a simple table, with no formulas or macros, that opens in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.
