Semi-trailers
Reefer trailer: dimensions and capacity.
The reefer trailer is an insulated box semi-trailer with a refrigeration unit for temperature-controlled transport. Inside it measures about 13.3–13.4 × 2.46–2.50 × 2.63–2.70 m and takes 33 EUR pallets in a single tier. Because of its insulation, it may be 2.60 m wide outside, compared with the general 2.55 m.
Dimensions and weights
Typical values: every manufacturer and every unit varies. The plate or technical sheet of your own equipment takes precedence.
| Interior (L × W × H) | approx. 13.3–13.4 × 2.46–2.50 × 2.63–2.70 m |
|---|---|
| External width | 2.60 m (conditioned vehicles with walls at least 45 mm thick, under the RGV) |
| Insulation | walls of about 45–65 mm and roof of about 85 mm, depending on the manufacturer |
| Trailer tare | approx. 7,150–7,950 kg; varies by manufacturer and refrigeration unit |
| Access | Two-leaf rear doors (side door optional) |
How many pallets fit?
In a single tier. EUR pallets: manufacturers' technical sheets (see sources). Industrial pallets: calculated, 13 rows of 2, with 1,000 mm lengthwise and 2 × 1,200 mm across, within the interior width.
| Pallet | Dimensions | On the floor |
|---|---|---|
| EUR pallet (EUR/EPAL) | 1,200 × 800 mm | 33 |
| Industrial pallet | 1,200 × 1,000 mm | 26 |
Pallets: calculated with the shipping lines' interior dimensions and the pallet dimensions of EN 13698-1 and ISO 6780; the real figure depends on clearance, the door and the cargo. Validate your load with its dimensions.
What it is used for
It carries fresh and frozen food, flowers or pharmaceuticals. It is loaded through the rear doors, and the cargo must leave room for the cold air to circulate.
